Tooth bleaching in healthcare setting
Dentistry certainly has moved on in the latter 100 years, at the beginning of the 1900’s there was little, if any, pain relief available for anyone who was having a tooth out, the term grin and bear it springs to mind. If you go back even further than this, there was little form of dentistry, in fact most people in the 1700’s used to walk around with tooth ache, it was seen as the norm, just as check ups and keeping teeth clean and healthy is seen as normal today. The nearest you could get to a dentist was usually a market charlatan or a backstreet barber, who would extract a painful tooth with a pair of forceps, for a small charge. It is not surprising that many of these people had bad teeth, many of them had no running water, and if lucky had old pieces of rags or linen to clean their teeth with.
Healthcare, dentists and nursing were progressing, and times were about to change, people wanted more than what the previous generations had and were demanding pain free dentistry, which would eventually lead to pain free teeth, so it was in the 1800’s that the first dentistry school was set up. There were many teeth still being pulled by backstreet dentists without pain relief, but in the next centaury this was to be a thing of the past. Once people realised that they could have their teeth taken out with little or no pain, the appeal of dentists being to take off. The first dentists had little knowledge compared to what is known today.
Today we have the very best in technology, which allows us to see just what it would be like with the perfect set of teeth, by using the latest in computer technology, in order to generate an image. At one point in history, the ability to have straight teeth with the aid of braces was seen as a break through, and teenagers were given these in order to straighten teeth. This still happens to this day, but now the added bonus of being able to have white teeth is also appealing. Celebrities have started the craze of people wanting the perfect set of pearly whites, and many people have opted for bleaching and tooth bleaching (Zähne bleichen) to enhance their smile.
